TROUVAY & CAUVIN UK EXHIBITS @ OFFSHORE EUROPE 2015

We were delighted to be exhibiting, once again, at the Offshore Europe Exhibition held within the Conference & Exhibition Center, Aberdeen, at the beginning of September.

The Offshore Europe Partnership announced attendance figures remained “very strong” at 55,947 with delegates drawn from 104 countries.  This compares to 2013 when crowds hit a record 63,000.This year the record hit by the four day exhibition was the 1,535 exhibitors from 44 countries, including 336 companies exhibiting at the event for the first time.  Space available at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) was (its biggest ever) sold-out.

oe pic1Richard Beesley, T&C Product Sales Manager, reported that “Despite the current market conditions and anticipated reduced footfall we found the exhibition as busy as it had been in 2013, and was well represented by the industry giants.  We had many visitors to our stand from major subsea companies, which we anticipate will lead to future business within our subsea/offshore product range, and opportunities also arose to meet with many of our current suppliers as well as potential new ones”. oe pic2

Huge investment in testing subsea valves by Trouvay & Cauvin partner Viar Valvole

Jul-2014

Huge investment in testing subsea valves.......

_pm25927In a further expansion of its testing capability, established valve manufacturer, Viar Valvole, has invested heavily in a new hyperbaric chamber at its manufacturing facility in Sumirago, Italy. The company is represented by Trouvay & Cauvin Limited.

Over 200,000 euros have been spent on equipment within a totally new plant dedicated to hyperbaric testing of its extensive range of subsea valves. Viar Valvole explains, “This is all part of our commitment to ensure total suitability and compliance of our products at all levels.”

The new chamber has an internal diameter of 4 metres, an overall length of 6 metres with a water capacity of 49,000 litres. Current simulated depth is 400 metres, however this is expected to increase after successful completion of all initial testing.

A maximum P.S.I. of 400 can be exerted within the chamber and it can test valves to a size complete with ROV gearbox up to 30" class 300 or 24" class 1500. Certification is according to TüV module G.

Eric Buchanan, Managing Director of Trouvay & Cauvin comments, “Trouvay & Cauvin Limited is delighted with the continued investment that Viar Valvole has been making over the last few years in its testing facilities. This strengthens our very fruitful relationship and gives our customers even greater confidence that we can meet their most demanding subsea specifications.”

New Flame Arrester from Trouvay & Cauvin partner Elmac Technologies

Dec-2013

Trouvay & Cauvin UK alliance partner and world leaders in flame arresters and tank vessel protection Elmac Technologies has introduced a new range of end-of-line flame arresters – the EVA Series. Developed for specific use with gases in explosion groups IIA1 and IIA, the EVA Series offers considerable improved performance and lower maintenance costs.

trouvay cauvin-elmac flame arrestors

Eric Buchanan, Managing Director of Trouvay & Cauvin UK comments, “The crucial development from the Elmac team is within the crimped ribbon flame arresting element where the free area and length of each element has been optimised. The result is the greatest free area of any IIA end-of-line flame arrester available today.”

In performance terms this means the EVA Series provides superior high flow capacities with minimal pressure drops. It is also less susceptible to clogging and fouling and with less weight is easier to install and maintain. Other benefits are an increased number of materials available including carbon steel, stainless steel, duplex steel and Hastelloy, a wide variety of connection types and size ranges up to 24” (600mm) NB. The range is tested to EN ISO 16852 and available with a four weeks lead time.

Eric Buchanan adds, “Elmac and ourselves have worked together with customers who work with the IIA1 and IIA explosion groups to develop these new products to meet their ever increasing needs.”

Over several years, in addition to Elmac, Trouvay & Cauvin UK Limited has built strategic alliances with world class manufacturers to form the TC Supplier Alliance.  These also include:  Viar Valvole - floating and trunnion mounted ball valves; CDB Engineering – filtration and speciality piping products and Arflu – gate, globe and check valves.

Trouvay and Cauvin partner Viar Valvole adds API6D SS

Jun-2013

Trouvay and Cauvin Alliance partner, Viar Valvole, has added a further important approval to its already impressive list - API 6D SS - which covers the design and manufacture of ball valves for subsea installation. vv jm ii

Rigorous and extensive testing was necessary before the valves were launched and Viar Valvole invested heavily in specialist testing equipment which included a hyperbaric subsea chamber. This chamber artificially reproduces the hyperbaric conditions under the sea to test the integrity of the valve under external pressure. Trouvay and Cauvin’s Jon Mason says “Currently Viar Valvole can test its subsea valves up to 20 bar, with construction underway on a hyperbaric chamber capable of pressures up to 350 bar - equivalent to a depth of 3,500m.”

The investment is already paying off. Viar Valvole can point to major successes with the supply of valves to many end users and contractors including BP. Approval has also been gained with and valves supplied to Total and Subsea 7 in recent months with many more to come.

This subsea range compliments the complete range of floating and trunnion mounted ball valves which Viar Valvole designs and manufactures in Italy to internationally recognised standards, including, ISO 9001, API 6A, API 6D, PED, APEX & SIL

vv jm i“The addition of the subsea range of ball valves to its existing oil, gas and petrochemical range, cements Viar Valvole’s place as a world class manufacture of ball and double block and bleed valve.” adds Jon Mason.

Over the past several years, Trouvay & Cauvin UK Limited has built strategic alliances with world class manufacturers to form the TC Supplier Alliance. These also include: CDB Engineering – filtration and speciality piping products, Elmac – safety products and Arflu – gate, globe and check valves.

T&C UK I.T Integration into the T&C Group

Apr-2013

In March 2013 we welcomed Haseem Mahamood from T&C Gulf Head office to our snowbound Oldham Office. His mission – to complete Phasehaseem simon 1 of the I.T integration of T&C UK into the T&C Group.

This integration involved:-

  • The installation of a Mitel 3300 phone system enabling free direct calls internally, plus the system security that comes with the Mitel brand.
  • The installation of a new HP ProLiant DL380 domain server to bring T&C UK into the T&C Group I.T network . Relocation of the mail server to Dubai and creation of a VPN connection for Sage X3.

Haseem left Dubai, in a sizzling 40° centigrade, and landed at Manchester airport in a 0° centigrade weather front and found his first unexpected task was to locate a hat and pair of gloves.

Over the next ten days Haseem achieved all the main objectives with the minimum of disruption. The staff in the UK quickly came to appreciate Haseem’s easy going manner and widespanning I.T knowledge.

There were a few nights out in the eateries of Manchester and some interesting shopping expeditions in the local malls, plus, much to Haseem’s joy, quite a bit of snow.

Haseem became a friend of the T&C UK team and will provide excellent support to the ongoing integration and I.T support.

Quality of Duplex and Super Duplex Equipment Assured

Apr-2013

supex duplex 1Sourcing of duplex and super duplex materials for valves and strainers is critical to ensure compliance, not only with international standards but also with the strict requirements of Oil and Gas companies.

When Trouvay and Cauvin Ltd. works on Oil, Gas and Petrochemical projects, engineered in the United Kingdom, the company only uses, manufacturers that have a supply chain which complies with current market restrictions for sourcing and supply of duplex materials; for example CDB for filters, strainers and SP Items and Viar Valvole, for trunnion-mounted and floating ball valves.

Trouvay and Cauvin’s Jon Mason explains “International Oil Companies examine the total supply chain much more closely. As a result manufacturers of valves and SP products must ensure and validate the appropriate sourcing of materials.” Quotations to IOCs need to show which sub-suppliers will be used and that these  sub-suppliers maintain the necessary approval and certification with bodies like Norsok.

Client orders can stipulate that sub-suppliers are in accordance with the sub-suppliers’ list submitted by the supplier and customer or third-party inspections can be made at the sub-suppliers’ facilities. “The final certification and documentation submission to the client must incorporate all of the documents which validate all component parts as two of our recent projects demonstrate” adds Jon Mason.

Trouvay & Cauvin Limited and Viar Valvole supply valves to BP In Amenas in Algeria on a JV between 2 IOCs, Aibel UK Limited and Sontrach, where conditions of supply for duplex and super duplex SS are extremely strict and material traceability is to BP standards. All materials must be sourced from European manufacturers and be compliant with Norsok M650. The material requirements are severe including ferritescope examination to ASTM E562, corrosion testing to ASTM A923 Method C and charpy impact testing in both transverse and longitudinal orientations.supex duplex 2

Similarly challenging conditions apply on the BP Chirag Oil Project, an offshore topsides project in the Caspian Sea. Trouvay & Cauvin Limited work with both the EPC contractor KBR in the UK and the operator AIOC in Baku to supply filters, strainers, piping spools and flame arresters in duplex and super duplex SS from CDB Engineering and Elmac Technologies. All materials are sourced from European manufacturers with material testing requirements similar to the In Amenas project.

“Use of duplex and super duplex increases project by project and customers need absolute assurance that they are getting what they have ordered. Through our suppliers this is guaranteed” says Jon Mason.

New testing facility for Trouvay & Cauvin partner Viar Valvole

Mar-2013

Viar Valvole, an established Italian manufacturer of floating and trunnion-mounted ball valves, has invested heavily in a new testing facility close to their factory in Sumirago. The company is represented by Trouvay and Cauvin Ltd.

Eric Buchanan, Managing Director of Trouvay and Cauvin UK comments “Trunnion-mounted ball valves are often used in critical applications, for instance, Oil and Gas Production and Pipelines. Reliable performance, in demanding operating conditions, is vital and this new facility sets Viar Vavole at the forefront of testing, verification and quality assurance to meet production and compliance demands in several applications.”

Sealing and pressure containment are two critical areas for ball valves: Sub-sea applications are always sensitive, dueviar_alvole_testing_1 to the potential impact viar_alvole_testing__2on the marine environment and production conditions. Pressurised hyperbaric chambers provide special testing for performance verification at simulated depths, with the next phase in process for testing to 350 bar.

Oil and Gas production presents other challenges for sealing across valve seats, especially when handling particulate matter, like sand or slurry. The sand/slurry testing loop installed by Viar Valvole ensures that the valves deliver highly reliable closure and isolation – even in the most erosive environment.

Full cryogenic testing is also available, performed to -196°C and high pressure gas testing is enabled through an on-site liquid nitrogen plant capable of generating pressures up to 600 barg.

Finally the overall manufacturing integrity of components is assured by thorough metallurgical testing, especially important for materials like Duplex and Super Duplex, where Norsok M650 may apply. A recent example of the rigour of Viar Vavole’s testing procedure occurred for a project in Algeria. This required Ferritescopic examination to ASTM E562; corrosion testing to ASTM A923 Method C and Charpy Impact testing in both transverse and longitudinal orientations – in addition to DPI, MPI and Ultrasonic examinations.

Eric Buchanan concludes “Trouvay and Cauvin Ltd is delighted to be associated with Viar Valvole. Through this level of investment the company leads the way to ensure that Ball Valves comply with customer specification and meet the most demanding performance expectations.”
